Sci Fi with added 'Science'

Crossed Gentres magazineHere at coeur de lion we are staunch advocates of science fiction with a capital SCIENCE. Yes, we know there are many, many more fantasy novels published in Australia than science fiction novels and it’s a sad fact that science fiction often needs to repackage itself as a thriller or action story in order to make it through the mainstream publishing houses (see for example Greig Beck’s excellent Beneath the Dark Ice and the forthcoming Return of the Prophet, or even the 2007 Aurealis Award winning SF novel The Company of The Dead by David Kowalski).

But Crossed Genre Magazine’s ‘Science in my Fiction’ blog is doing it old school and they’ve announced a short story competition for science fiction stories that ‘include a scientific discovery or innovation made or announced within the past year.’ The science must be integral but the other elements of story like character and plot also need to be there. We’re looking forward to reading the winning entries.
